Here in Portland, things move a bit more slowly than most places. Take the intersection of NE 24th Ave and Broadway. I don't think the signals there have been touched since the 1960's.

This is right in the middle of the Irvington Commercial District and Broadway is a fairly major street with a lot of the traffic to and from the Broadway Bridge across the Willamette River.

A veritable treasure trove of old style signals are 'hanging out' there. There is even an old CH AD 3 head signal with Smiley LEnses in the red and amber lights. Looks like the green has been replaced by an LED style light. Progress.

There is a pedestrian island with a ped signal on it. Mounted on this pole are 2 old Econolite and one old Singer 2-head ped signals. In addition, each corner has the old Econolite ped signals with the round WALK/WAIT lenses. Neat!

In addition, there are 2 or 3 othter types of traffic signals (I don't know what brand) side by side. Looks like they have been randomly installed next to each other without any concern for aesthetics. That's OK, they are all really cool!

These pictures were all taken 12/30/06 and these are all still in service as of that date.
